I had a sleeve done in August 2010. Had typical post surgery issues, but lost and kept off 100+. Had hernia surgery 2x but reflux and gerd required revision. 3 weeks bypass post op. Now back to beginning but with less weight loss, excess terrible gas, insomnia, and depression. Need someone to talk through ledge sitting and weepiness.

Please take several large steps back from the ledge. You're doing fantastic and you have every reason to Celebrate. This is only a bump in the road. Have you spoken to your doctor about the insomnia? Maybe they can give you something short term to help you sleep. There all kinds of medicines available that are non-narcotic that work reasonably well. Of course I am no medical professional, but you are only 3 weeks post-op and it may take your body time to adjust to its new reality. Just like you did with the sleeve, work the steps methodically and slowly while following your doctor's programs. When the tough gets going, just look at the day minute to minute, hour to hour. This is only temporary.

I suffer from depression as well and I just had bypass. Remember, this surgery will alter your hormones and biochemistry some. I don't really cry easily and I was an emotional wreck last Friday. I had a good cry and felt relieved.

I too will be having a revision from sleeve to bypass on 3/29 due to complications.

I am sorry you have had a rough go.

If it helps, your post is reminding me that it is going to be another major surgery with more recovery. You are helping me to be better mentally prepared.

How are you feeling now?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
