First bites of actual food gone bad!

Recommended Posts

I started on my pureed stage today. My doctor told me I'm allowed to add in creamy Soups, tune, blended chicken and blended fish. I gave tuna a try with a bit of mayo. I had about 2 oz with two crackers. Chewed it a bunch of times until mush and then swallowed. Not even 10 min later I threw it up. Did this happen to anyone else? Not I'm afraid and just want to continue with my fluids

Hey @BeautyQueen218, I am sorry that your first bite of food was so difficult. I wish I could offer some advice but I am just out of the hospital today. Let me just ask you one question: Could it be that the two crackers caused the difficulty? Perhaps try just eating the 2oz of tuna with mayo only?

I didn't know crackers is part of the pureed phase...

So that's what it was. I couldn't help myself y'all. But I appreciate all the replies and will stay heavily away from crackers lol

It's all good. This is a learning experience and it will continue to be for quite some time. How do feel when you eat food without the breads?

Well in the morning I had a very soft scrambled egg and it stayed down. So I'm pretty sure it was most likely the crackers. I'm just not a fan of textures and the pureed stage has been hard for me. I literally just want to stay on liquids to avoid the mushy foods. [emoji23]

I’m doing unsweetened apple sauce, mashed potatoes (instant only made with water), plain yogurt (no or low sugar), and oatmeal.

This is very understandable. I don't like mushy texture either. Before surgery I once tried some canned chicken mixed with brown mustard. That was good. I think I could easily handle that once it's time for puree.

I love mashed potatoes. For your oatmeal what type of milk do you use?

I just got some canned shredded chicken yesterday I might try it with mustard, sounds pretty yummy. What about spicy foods? Like hot sauce? I wonder if I can have it already I'm all about the spice and I know it would add some great flavor to my food.

I can’t do milk now - so I use my strawberry cream flavored Protein Shake. It’s very good!

I also use my Protein shake in my coffee as Creamer. Yum!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
