Sleeved on 2/5/18 - losing slowly

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved in Feb. 2018. My BMI was 33. 1 week before surgery I weighed 213

Surgery weight: 206

Current weight: 197

It has been 31 days, I thought I would have lost at least 40 pounds by now. Should I be worried? Is there anything I can do?

No worries, seems like your on target with a lower BMI. Your not going to lose 40 lbs a month at your weight, hun. Your doing great.

You are precisely average.

People typically lose 18% of their net excess weight the first month.

If you're a 350 pound person and lose 18% of your excess weight... you might lose 40 pounds.

But you're not.

You're 5'6". You have a normal BMI at 154 pounds. (I get that you'd prefer to weight a little less)

206-154 = 52 pounds of excess weight.

18% of 52 pounds is 9.3 pounds.

You've lost 9 pounds....the exact average amount of weight someone your size is expected to lose. Congrats:)

Should you be worried? No, you're doing perfectly.

Is there anything you can do? Yes. Be patient and have realistic expectations. You're not going to lose weight like you weigh 350.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
