Need to step it up

Recommended Posts

I am almost three months out and have been stuck. Not losing anymore and need to step up the exercise. I want to join a gym but can’t bring myself to go in alone be and I don’t have anyone to work out with. Does anyone know of any workout groups to join to find work out buddies? Or how do you get over being too shy to go in alone? I am in south Jersey and am thinking of joining Planet Fitness.

Not sure what you mean by “not loosing.” How long has it been since you stopped loosing weight? Wright loss is 90 pct a function of diet and is far less impacted by exercise so if you aren’t tracking your food intake I would recommend you start doing that. And if you aren’t following your surgeons plan you should get that back on track. If you are doing these things and legitimately not loosing weight then there are different options.

As far as exercise - we’ll as someone who took a brief 20 year hiatus from exercise and got back into it (including overcoming all the typical gym anxiety of someone who is unfamiliar with gyms, exercise options and approaches, much less what to do when I am in a gym) I would strongly recommend just going and doing a lot of different things. Take classes, try different gyms from affordable chains to small boutiques until you find something you like.

The best workout is the one you will do.

Honestly, no one will even notice you at planet fitness ( i mean this in a good way :)), people are busy doing their own thing. There are all fitness levels/ body types there, thin, obese, geriatrics, teenagers, you name it. Just go, once you break the ice you will feel much more comfortable.

But as others have said, weight loss is mostly driven by diet. Im 6 months out and exercise sporadically..so sometimes 3 times a week and then not for 2 weeks. However, i do watch (log) what i eat, and keep my calories below 1200 and continue to lose.

Join the gym and you'll meet people there. Try to strike up conversations with people who also look like they're there to combat a weight problem, not because they're into fitness or body building.

Also, remember that many gyms will give you a free coaching session when you sign up to help you develop a plan that's right for you, and it's possible the coaches will know of others in your same situation who they can pair you up with.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
