bariatric surgery,i jumped off the horse before the rodeo was over, that was 7 months because I had an insurance company to please.

Because many insurance companies require six months of medically supervised weight loss.

Also because there are a million other things that need to get done...

Nutrition counseling, psychological clearance, seeing a fitness trainer, attending a support group, going for a ton of medical tests...Upper GI, Endoscopy, EKG, Chest films, Blood work, etc. etc...

Everything takes time.

And that's really good...because it's not a decision you should rush into. Six months of research....was about right for me. I wouldn't change anything.

My surgeon required us to lose 10% of our body weight....for me, that was 27 pounds. I remember being upset about this, but now I understand it. You really need those months to learn self discipline for optimal success.

Makes sense , so far I’ve done the 6 month medically supervised weight loss with Weight Watchers (: hopefully everything else goes smooth

If you're insurance accepts weight watchers...you're in luck. Does weight watchers employ physicians now, or is your PCP signing off on your Weight Watchers documentation?

My insurance does cover WW thank god! & no but with that I was also seeing my PD every month to check weight. But my PD never took copies or anything of my WW attendance which is weird so I’m not too sure how all that goes.

7 months since my first appointment with the surgeon and Bariatric Center. Good times for all the reasons @Creekimp13 gave. I had to have a licensed RD for my program.

My insurance required 6 months of “coaching”. It was thought Preventure, our employee wellness program. It was online, my mail and over the phone. I was expecting diet only, but it was much more than that. They worked with me on techniques such as slowing down mealtime, chewing food thoroughly, no carbonated beverages, no liquids with meals or for an hour afterwards. These are changes that you have make after surgery. The idea was to create new habits that I would be comfortable with by the time I had surgery. At the time, I thought it was a little over the top, then I attended a few pre-op group nutrition classes. People who where looking at surgery in 4-6 weeks and not familiar with the routines appeared to be overwhelmed with all the requirements. It’s a lot to try and accomplish in just a few weeks. I have to wonder how many dropped out. Just giving up carbonated beverages was a huge achievement for me!

I researched and researched Drs in Mexico because insurance would not cover it. After a year i was comfortable with the surgery i decided on, I already started the preop diet to be ready as i could be when i got the funds together. I called and got a surgery date in a Friday and had surgery the following Friday. Best decision ever to go to MX I would still be miserable and gaining. Lots of great Surgeons out there with experience and some are less than your yearly deductible if you have a high plan.

Mine is about 3 months. I had my 1st visit late November, my surgeon appt is wed feb 28...would have a mid march surgery date, but will be on vacation until the 22 of march, so im hoping for a early April surgery date. My insurance or dr didnt require any weight monitoring. I have all my clearances, cardio, dietian, exercise, physocology, and nurse practitioner. Super excited
