Post Op Gallbladder question

Recommended Posts

I'm having my Gallbladder removed 2/16 (14 months post op VSG), no stones but Hida scan came back abnormal. I plan to take 5 days off work as my doc said 5-7 should be fine with my job (desk job, no pushing/pulling/lifting) but my hubby just reminded me that my son has a reward dinner the next evening 2/17 that we completely forgot about. I really don't' want to miss it but I don't' want to reschedule surgery since I've been putting it off since June. Those who had a lap choli, do you think I will be okay to attend the dinner. It will be a couple hours max and I will just have to walk in and sit, nothing strenuous. I know everyone is different but I'm just looking for some experiences. I had a Appendectomy back in 2008 but I don't remember how long it took me to bounce back.

I felt pretty normal after the anesthesia wore off. I know some people have more issues than I did, but I don't think I even needed pain meds. It was a pretty easy surgery and recovery for me. I would have been fine to go to a dinner the next day. :)

I had my gallbladder surgery first thing in the morning....was home on the couch eating a Subway turkey sandwich by 1pm...and went to work the next day:)

Everyone's different, of course, but I could have easily attended the dinner.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
