I can eat more than I think I should.. Day 6 Post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Had op, 6 days ago, and am a bit worried that I can drink more than I should. Dr states to take sips of Fluid, and you will get full. I sip the fluid and don't get full?

Hi there! I have to say....I was so glad to see your post. I am 2 weeks pre-op and was reading some of the posts about how people can't get anything down much less keep it down. Some are even having trouble with water! It was really scaring me. I understand why you probably aren't happy with the fact that you are not feeling full since having the surgery is to feel full quicker. I would ask my doctor about it. I'm hoping there is a happy place somewhere in-between keeping Water down and not feeling full. I hope everything works out for you. :) Best of luck!!!

I was told to sip & drink slowly and that’s all I could do at first. But now when I feel thirsty I can take a big drink of water! I get at least 64oz in a day. I was also a big Water drinker before surgery so I’m not sure if that made a difference?? I am 3 weeks post-op, but was able to start drinking a lot about a week out.

@nickiarnold7

welcome newbie

drinking liquids/water won't make you full.

once you gradually eat towards mush, soft

and especially the goal of solid foods, you

will feel restriction. your new little tummy

will feel happier soon. don't worry too

much - your hair will turn gray:lol:

kathy

good luck

Don't fret, this will end the moment you put the pureed foods in. lol!

So right now you are drinking liquid. Your stomach is a swollen, banana shaped organ now. You have about 2 or 3 straw widths worth of space right now. The liquid will slide RIGHT down, whooosh! But the moment you move to pureed your swollen stomach will now be receiving a lot of mass that it will then have to start to breakdown and digests. That's when you will find out just how much your stomach can handle. You may start out trying to get in 4 ozs but find you can't even get in two.

Don't worry about how much you can ingest right now when all you are doing is putting in liquid. The real fun begins with "food". Also...please don't "test" your stomach. It's dangerous. When you get to pureed stage just follow your protocol, don't try to see if your stomach really had 80% of it removed. It's dangerous, can cause tearing and leaks which can cause really bad things. If you find you can eat all 4 ozs without any issues or sense of fullness - call your surgeons office, don't try to eat more to test.

Consider yourself lucky! I to can drink a lot of Water & I was told that I’m fortunate. Fluids are not comparable to solid foods. Even on full liquids & puréed your going to be able to handle much more than when you transition to solids. You also are going to be calorie & Protein deficient. If you can handle 4 ounces it’s to you benefit. I would not be concerned if I were you. I would be happy to be able to drink freely when SOOOOOO many others cannot.

In the early stages it isn't easy to tell what is hunger and what is full. The advice is to go slow so that you can keep it all down. If you can tolerate more liquids I agree with the others that you are fine. As you expand into other foods you will feel a new type of full. There will be months of learning and changes.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
