So today was my first visit to my Bariatric center. Overall it is a daunting but achievable road ahead. My insurance is requiring 3 months of a diet program with 4 classes a month during that time. A Nutritionist visit, a Psych visit and of course the surgeon visit. One thing that i like is that the center takes the stance that they are not going to pressure you to lose a certain amount during the diet, all of us are there because we have tried to diet and either it didn't work or the weight came back. So while they would like for us to lose weight the main goal is to not be gaining any weight and to put into practice what we learn in the classes, which unto itself should help us lose weight. Once all of that is done then the pre-approval is obtained and we do a one month long pre-surgery low calorie, high Protein diet. So all in all it is looking like Mid May for me, unfortunately that is right before my 20th Wedding anniversary, but we will make it work somehow, my wife figures that if i am around for anniversary 25, 30 35, 40, 50, 60 and 75 then having a low toned one for 20 wont be a major issue.

So It begins...time to buckle in and get on with the ride!

Good luck! The time will go by quickly. I'm glad I found this site prior to surgery because it really helped me learn to what to expect. Even though we had a support group for pre/post-op people it was easier to interact with the folks on here.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
