Week one- two pounds down?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I'm about one week down after surgery. I've followed my doctors plan to the "T" and have NOT cheated. I'm at about 70-80 grams of Protein a day, 64 oz of fluids a day, I walk everyday, I do housework, I'm feeling good and almost back to normal. However...

I've only lost 2 lbs!!! I lost a lot in my pre-op diet, 14 lbs, and I didn't gain any weight in the hospital. But every YouTube vlog and website I visit, everyone has these amazing first weeks with 10+ lbs lost and I wonder if I'm the only one who started out kinda slow? Is this normal for some of us?

My stats:

Heaviest- 267

Before Pre-op- 257

Surgery- 243

Today- 241

Your body can only lose a certain amount of weight each month before it fights back.

You've lost a total of 16 pounds...that's a terrific accomplishment for one month..for a person your size.

What you are experiencing is completely normal and healthy.

Stick to your plan and have patience. I promise the scale will move again:) But give your body a chance to catch up to what your brain wants. LOL. Bodies are stubborn.

And hey...16 pounds is awesome!

Okay cool. You're right-- and I'm super happy that I lost 16 lbs this month! I was just surprised my results seem so different from everyone else's.

They're not different from everyone else's.

They're different from a certain percent of people who post about their results...which is hardly a sample representative of a whole population.

I was in the hospital 6 days due to complications. I came home weighing 5 pounds MORE than I did the day of surgery. They pumped so many fluids into me that it took several days to get back to where I was prior to surgery. After that things kicked in. We all get anxious to see the scale start dropping but give it time. There are always going to be differences between people. Too many factors such as genetics, age, sex, how much weight you have to lose, etc. It's kind of like comparing gas mileage between 50 different cars. Some may be the same and others will be drastically different.

I came home from the hospital four pounds heavier than I arrived...fluids. Got premenstrual and my weight went up two pounds. After my period, I lost four. Bodies do this crap. They plateau. It's ok. Just keep steady and hang in there:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
