Sleeve to loop duodenal switch (SIPS)

Recommended Posts

Little background, have the gastric sleeve almost 4 year ago have gained over 60 pounds back along with reflux and hiatal hernia has returned. Went to see my doctor and had recommended getting the SIPS procedure also called the loop duodenal switch. Would love to hear from anyone who has had this surgery and how successful it was. How much weight did you loss and at what rate?? Over all experience??

I know there have been some issues with reflux and the full DS. I'd ask my surgeon to consider if that's true with the single loop DS and/or the RNY.

I am so amazed on my progress with weightloss and how I feel and look! I had my surgery in 6/15 weight came off gradually and steadily. To date I have maintained my 150 lbs. If you have any specific questions just ask!

You will have to keep me updated. Best of luck. I have gained all but 25 pounds back. I go for the rest of my testing on the 22nd of this month then hoping to get a date.

I was just discharged from the hospital. I had SIp yesterday. Minimal pain. I had a sleeve in 2013. Gained 51lbs back and was put back on bp meds. Something had to give.

No, I did not. This was my 1 and only shot of having SIPS. I couldnt be any happier! Surgery was easy going for me. Minimal pain. To date, no problems, no reflux, no weight issues, no more high blood pressure. Make sure you take your Vitamins.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
