My first and hopefully last dumping experience

Recommended Posts

Let me give you some background on this amazing story yesterday was my birthday it was supposed to be a glorious day where my family celebrates the fact that I am alive. Sadly my glorious day was not so glorious. Christmas day I came down with a slight fever nothing huge 99-100 but enough to make you feel kind of bad, so I take some Tylenol and hit the sack I wake up to Breakfast in bed, a lovely filet mignon (I am on a Protein only diet) that was lovingly grilled it was amazing; I also woke up to a 100.8 fever. Again I take some Tylenol but I still feel miserable its all in my chest so my husband runs me up to the store to get something to give me some relief. I go through all the meds and I find a mucinex that is NOT time released but the pills are kind of big so I wait 20 minutes to talk to the pharmacist to make sure I can cut these big blue pills in half. The pharmacist who may I add seemed very perturbed with my line of questioning said that it would be fine so off I went to purchase what I hoped would be the salvation to my misery. Now my birthday gift was to go see star wars I know I know I was going to spread my germs to the entire world but what ever, because of the pharmacist and the whole trip to the store we missed the showing we were supposed to see so we grabbed lunch. Again I just nibbled on some steak (I wasn't very hungry), and when everyone was done we started walking over to the theater. That is when it happened my stomach started to cramp, I got incredibly flushed, felt like I was going to throw up and suddenly had zero energy. I told my husband and he rushed me home this is where my ten minute car ride felt like an eternity in hell I was actually praying that I would not loose my **** (literally) in front of my three kids and my husband. I have never clenched so hard in my entire life. We pull up to the house and it is a full on sprint for the bathroom, which worked wonders for my cough so now I have everything going wrong and I start hacking so hard that I am gagging. After my bathroom session I felt like a small part of me died and all I was able to do was crawl into bed I was so tired that I couldn't even sleep. When my husband came to check on me all I could say was If I had known that I was going to dump on my birthday I would have had a cupcake.

This is something that I never want to experience again. I called the Dr today and they where shocked to here of my dumping and that mucinex is on there safe list I explained it was the fast max and asked about cutting the pills they said that it speeds up absorption but still should not have caused and issue I am lucky and get to be the 1% sigh what a birthday present.

hmmm....that is weird. You usually get it when you eat too much fat or sugar. Like too much fried food, for example. Was the steak super fatty or....???

Oh WOW! I can't believe you even wanted to try meat. I didn't attempt any type of meat for almost a year as it still to this day (8 years later) does that exact same thing to me. I know this pain all too well and still experience it if I try to eat more than a bite or 2 of meat. I was on Protein as well for the 1st year, but mainly in the form of shakes or puree. The pain is just not worth it to even attempt to eat it anymore. I'm sorry you went through this and I would love to tell you that it's over, but more than likely, you will have this throughout your life with "hard to digest" foods. Mostly meats and heavy carbs. I don't touch bread, Pasta or anything like that because when it becomes "stuck" I feel like I'm gonna die.

I am only allowed to eat meat or as my doctor put it things with faces. I wont get to add carbs into my diet until I am at 75% of my weight loss. I have not had pain or dumping issues with any of the meats I have eaten and this particular cut is a staple in my diet right now I mean if all i can eat is 1.5oz of meat I might as well have a good cut that isn't tough and has a good flavor. The only new thing that was added was the stupid pills :(

maybe it was something with the pills? This whole thing just sounds odd. Especially since you've been able to tolerate meat before.

my guess and the drs guess is the pills i have checked the website to see if they have sugar but it doesn't say but it also doesn't say that they are good for diabetics I am betting it was the coating the pills had a minty flavor to them

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
