I tried chicken yesterday....

Recommended Posts

I'm "supposed" to still be in the mushy stages, but I've been eating all kinds of food so I tried a chicken breast. It was a little dry, so I put some teriyaki sauce on it to moisten it up some. Took small bites, chewed and chewed and chewed.

Honestly, it felt funny going down. Unless it is VERY moist, I don't think I'll be having chicken breast again anytime soon.

Not to encourage you to go against your doctor's orders but my nutritionist says dark meat chicken might be tolerated earier since it has more moisture than the white meat. I'm in the soft foods stage and haven't tried eating chicken. Really, I haven't tried many meats at all even though I am craving them!

Since I'm on pureed, soft mushies, I put my piece of chicken breast in the processor and let it rip! Mushed it right up, added a tiny bit of FF gravy to keep it moist, also broth works, and yummy! Great with mashed potatoes. And of course cranberry sauce is mushie! That was it for me. One piece of chicken got me 3 meals!

I am on the mushy stage and I love putting chicken breast in the blender! My husband makes all kinds of caseroles and by the time they are pureed to almost liquid I can down anything. I even tried hamburger helper. It was too salty for my new and improved taste buds, but it did blend nicely. I just can't watch it blend, because it doesn't look too appealing.

I was banded on the 15th and have been eating things like crabcake, tuna salad, Soups and cottage cheese. I had a poached egg one day. I haven't eaten any meat: it just doesn't sound 'appropriate' or like it would be ok right now. Trusting my instinct here. My post-op appointment is on Friday. I don't have a nutritionist that I have to meet with. I suppose it's because I'm self-pay. Everything seems to be going fine. Is anyone else eating mushies on week 2?

Holy cow, cQQlgirl! I was banded on the 15th, too, and am still on liquids. I was told to stay on the liquid diet for at least a week after the surgery. I go for my one-week post-op visit with the dr tomorrow and am hoping he will let me start mushies. After 4 weeks of liquid, I'm ready for something more!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
