So is this before surgery?? I got told to replace Breakfast and lunch with Protein Shakes, and then eat dinner, low fat, very low sugar. I'm trying to lose 17 pounds so I can get insurance to cover my surgery but I'm having hard time, need to do this by January 3rd,I'm so stressed.

That was pre op yes. That sounds like it would work. Stress can make it harder to lose weight so try to relax

Just drink milk, and no food or shakes, and you lose??

I'm not advising you to do that. The milk and Jello is popular here in the UK for super modbidly obese people pre op. But they are under medical supervision. But yes I lost 6lbs in a week

I've got two weeks of only 3 Protein Shakes and two sugar free Jello cups. I'm at the end of week one and it's not been fun....but it does help you get through the mental change of smelling yummy food with the family and not eating any. I think it helps prepare us for the post surgery lifestyle.

I still have my 2 weeks of liquid diet hell to look forward to! :) It's ALL over the place with the docs pre-op plans! :D I know they have their reasons and logic. My RD explained that they're strict because if you give a patient an inch, they'll take a mile. For instance, if they say, "OK, you can have 1oz of berries in your dinner smoothie." Pretty soon, we'll be adding chocolate Syrup, Peanut Butter, 3oz of frozen banana, 1 cup of berries and 1/2 an apple. Then they'll get to the surgery and the liver will be swollen and inflamed and blammo! Cancelled surgery. This way, they have a little more control over the outcome (plus they identify people who are gonna wash out and ring the bell BEFORE they have a chance to moiderize themselves with turkey and dressing 3 days after surgery.

It amuses me to think of it as my surgeon's personal welcome to me, "Welcome to hell WLS noob, your ass belongs to me for the next year...beginning in the these next 2 weeks." *surgeon laughs a little maniacally*

The End.

:D

@jenn1 yes physicians orders should be followed in most cases - but not always - they are educated, but far from perfect and subject to biases just like any other human. There are many many that I trust, but there is no blind trust.

If I had taken the proscribed advice of an orthopedic surgeon (Dr.D. McCarty) he would have yanked out my artificial knee because he said it was loose and that is why it was inflammed and bothering me. Instead I paid $500 out of pocket to go see my original surgeon after the other one's exam (he wasn't in my *** that year), and he said it's not loose, I'd like to see him knock it loose with a hammer. He just wants to put in the knee he has a patent on, he is my brother-in-law btw too. You have a little scar tissue rubbing and we can do a shot, some massage, and if it doesn't improve, I can go in and clear some of it out, but I doubt if I have to do that.

Then there is the resident that brought my 21yr old son's blood sugar down too fast and caused brain swelling and a near coma, until I pitched a fit and made her call an endocrinologist to confirm what I just told her she needed to do.

Then there was the b!otch physician's assistant that told me I had 3rd stage kidney failure, that I had had a heart attack, and not to go to the gym to workout because from just listening to my heart she said she could hear a valve problem and I could jump down off the exam table and have a pulmonary embolism. I had went to her to get a referral to that idiot ortho and she ordered ALL these tests I obviously didn't need!!! She did this sort of thing to two other people at my work too. I reported her and had one helluva time getting all that chit out of my medical record. She was a nice money maker for that clinic.... Talk about stress...so no, I will follow medical advice almost all of the time, but will make informed decisions and ask questions until I am satisfied.

I am not trying to disrespect anyone's opinion or choices. Also I am fat but not a food addict. I overeat and liked food. I have used food for emotional reasons at times, but have never gotten up in the middle of the night to eat ice cream, or driven to town on a binge Quest, or stolen my kid's candy or purged or used extreme restriction, or laxatives, or hidden what I ate. Food does have strong social, familial aspects and chemical influence, no doubt there. I have great respect for those that do struggle with any addiction, it's horrid and hard to admit to and overcome and bravo to those that work at it, make mistakes and work at it some more, as we are all a work in progress and have much to learn from each other. Being an adult to me means taking responsibility for my actions past and present. I hope I am always a work in progress.

(Whew! Crawling off soapbox now)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
