Hi Everyone.

I am brand new and looking at January or March for surgery, depending on insurance. I have scoured these forums and see a lot of talk about endoscopes before surgery. My list of requirements do not have a scope checked and I inquired with my coordinator yesterday who confirmed that my surgeon did not order one for me. Is this possible? Has anyone not had a scope beforehand?

Thank you!

My doctor doesn't do them routinely, just if there's reason to suspect a problem like esophageal scarring from long term GERD.

I didn't have a scope before my surgery. My doctor only did them if he suspected problems based on history.

I just had a GI test where I drank something and they took X-rays to see how well I swallowed it. No scope

It really does depend on your surgeon and your history. Even though I do have a history of gerd and have had endoscopies and Upper GI's in the past, he did not order it for me and it wasn't a requirement. :)
