Keep walking sweet girl! Walk walk walk! Sip sip sip sip!!! Saying prayers things start moving soon. What do your nurses say? Sometimes they have better info than your docs! Do they have any tips? I know you must be pretty miserable, but I'm glad you're in the hospital so they can monitor you!

Sometimes the inability to pass gas can be a problem. A quick search of the internet provides the following:

http://www.thinnertimesforum.com/topic/41895-unable-to-pass-gas-or-stool-after-surgery/

On the last thread someone recommended deep breathing exercise by using the spirometer frequently.

I didn’t pass any gas either for at least a few days. I walked around the hospital several times a day for two days then went home and did the same. Took me several days to pass any. I was miserable. Once I started my Gas X pills- it helped so much!! Now I take them every day at night and also drink 2 benefiber packets a day!! Otherwise I get constipated rather easily , even though I eat fruits and veggies now on solids stage...

Walk ... all they told me ... but the problem is and was that when I walked I felt all the gas coming up instead of down. Weird. So then by 2 round I’m in so much pain and gasping for air.

Which side did you lay on?! Left is the magic side. Maybe lie a little on a pillow for a little pressure.

Or maybe lean over the edge of the bed if you can tolerate it?

For me, laying on my left side was a godsend.

Hope it passes soon!

Hi, aI had surgery on Monday the 27th passes gas on Wed 11/29. What helps me is bringing my legs up to my stomach when laying down, basically putting them at a 90 degree angle. Hope this helps.

Just keeping walking. You will be home soon. Praying for you!

Thank you! I made it tho.. walking and sitting in the toilet.. no gas on the bed at all .

I try both and nothing just walking and sitting in the toilet.. I felt like “that” area is alive again . Weird I know.. but before I couldn’t feel it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!
