Anyone heard of this?

Recommended Posts

My husband and I were watching Big Medicine tonight. A lady was wanting a revision surgery done. She had the Mylena band (not sure about spelling) done 10 years ago with little success. She said that she had a lot of vomiting from it. She was now wanting the gastric bypass done. The Drs went on and on about the risk of this band and how they dreaded trying to remove it and do a revision. My husband immediately asks me if that was anything like what I was having done. I said I had never heard of it. I tried to look up some stuff on the internet and cant find anything. Anyone ever heard of this?

I wonder if this is the original, non-adjustable band they started off with many years ago. They would staple off the majority of the stomach and put a band that was non adjustable and that was all the restriction someone would get, period.

I don't know what the name of that band was but I can certainly see how that particular band would make a revision procedure quite difficult.

Bands today are not too tricky to remove. The difficulty is with revisions from one procedure to another depending on scar tissue, type of procedure, etc.

The Molina band was the original non-adjustable band. I think that's the one the OP is talking about.

So yeah, definitely assure your husband that the Molina band is nothing like the ones they use today. Today's bands are completely adjustable and easily deflated or removed if anything should go wrong.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
