15 year old getting lap band

Recommended Posts

I am 15 years old and i have been over weight all my life. I have been searchering for a doctor that will do lap band on me for 2 years. I finally found a doc in nebraska and i had my first app. on the 18 i am approved of the surgery by the surgeon all i need to do is send all my health recordsof the last 3-4 years to the insurance company and get them to aprrove me. I am really excited about possibly getting it. I am not to worried that the insuarnce wont aprrove me becase i meet all their criteria for the surgery. Basicly time is what is holding me up. I was wonering if people who have has the surgery how it went and how much wieght they have lost.

Thank you:)

Devin

Good luck to you Devin! My experience was very good, very smooth. I am only 9 days out from surgery, and so far, so good! I think you are very brave to make this decision so young in your life. I wish I had been more proactive about my weight when I was a teenager...but I'm no old fart now, am I? ;) It is a wonderful thing to regain control no matter what age we are. I lost about 15 lbs on the pre-op diet, and have lost another 5 so far. I don't know how much you have looked on this forum, but there is a 16 year old girl on here from Canada (I think her name is Isabella) who has done remarkably well...check out her before & after pics.

Good luck to you!!!!

Jenne

Hi Devin! I was banded back in May and it's truly gone well for me. No complications, no hang-ups, whatever. You might want to look around for a support group in your area. I've always been kinda "anti" group hug type stuff, but it's really, really helpful. This site is great too - even though I just got on last night. Read, pray, and follow your doc's orders - you'll do fine!

Congratulations - today's the first day of the rest of your life!

(Jenne - 31 is definitely not even close to old-fartdom!!!!)

:biggrin1:

Good luck Devin. I'm from Nebraska myself but am living in KC and was banded here 2+ years ago. It has been a godsend to me. I only wish it had been around for me years ago. You will be in my prayers. Keep us posted on your insurance approval.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
