Hi 👋

Wondering if anyone has experienced hypoglycemia after surgery?

I had my VSG done September 25/2016 with severe GERD which prompted the surgeon to do a revision to RNY on August 28/2017. From that surgery they perforated my bowel and had to go back in for emergency surgery then after that a large abcess formed which resulted in needing a tube inserted surgically into my pelvic area to drain. Then from that I formed an infection from one of the incision sights which they had to reopen and then have packing to heal it .

I'm happy all that trauma is over. I was at the doctor Friday and he advised me I am now hypoglycemic and I need to change my eating routine and need to eat more often throughout the day. I have done that but I am still experiencing episodes of lightheadedness clammy and energy loss.

Has anyone here experienced this before?

thanks for taking the time to read my post :)

Thanks for sharing.

How do you function with it? Is it a way of life for you now? Has the doctor shared if there is a cure?

She told me to consume ALOT of protien its called reactive hypoglycemia i went to an endocrinologist eating carbs causes your sugars to rise and then drop so I significantly dropped my carb intake also I drink alot of gatorade it helps with staying hydrated just makes sure protien Protein protien. I started consuming protien bars but you have to watch the carbs on them try to stay below 30g per bar. This is my experience but everyone is different so i would always let your doctor know. my complications included an abscess on my spleen and a hole in my stomuch and the infection went into my blood almost didn't make it but im happy to say im 1 year post surgury and down 100 pounds so no more regrets

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
