Pre-op week and in constant pain

Recommended Posts

Pre-op week. On my mostly Protein Shake diet and my body is just aching. It feels like arthritis in all my joints.

I thought it was just the weather change (Buffalo), but it's nearly constant. I'm not allowed to take Naproxen, only Tylenol, which does nothing.

Anyone experience anything like this? I've been trying to stay hydrated and my husband is researching anti-inflammatory teas. Lol

Do you have a history of milk allergies, RA, or other auto immune disease? If it were me, I'd try other vegan Protein powders, unsweetened and add your own sweetener. Try to get them as pure and unflavored as possible and see. I suspect you are actually going through Keto flu--where your body switches over from burning carbs to burning fat for fuel. It makes your muscles and joints ache just like the flu. It can take 1-3 weeks of pain. But the good news is that you will be doing now, pre-surg rather than after the surgery! Call you doc and tell her about the pain. See if she can prescribe something for you?

Hi there, I'm in my pre-op stages. I'm also a nurse. If you're having a fever with the aches, need to contact your doctor. I can go through a list of questions to try and point you in the right direction of what it "may" be, but it'll take awhile.

As for the anti-inflammatory teas or any other herbal anti-inflammatory products, I'd suggest to stay clear from them. Just because it's a herbal supplement, it's still an anti-inflammatory. This can cause complications with surgery.

You know, I never even considered Keto flu!!! You may have hit the nail on the head there. I did LCHF for about 8 months a couple years ago (and dropped 45 lbs), and was in ketosis but never had keto flu because I was taking magnesium.

I did call the doctor who checks all the meds before surgery, and he said I could take Celebrex, but would still have to stop before surgery. He suggested opioids, but I don't want those. I'll just deal for now.

Thanks for your response as well, Suzy. I definitely don't have a fever, just generally achy and whiny. Lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
