Week ONE clear liquids

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for surgery in 2 days (Nov 8). I am starting to feel anxious about coming home and being able to get my Protein and liquids. Could someone post a menu sample of what you drank/ate and how often? I haven't been able to find a daily guide for week one. My surgeon requires 64 oz of liquid per day and 80-100oz of protein. Help?!?!? I am getting stressed!

Every surgeon is different. What did yours advise you when you went to meet for your pre-op appointment?

Mine doesn't require a clear liquid diet after the first day so I'm on shakes and stuff like pudding, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, cream Soups etc. I have to get down 64 ounces of liquid and 70-80 grams of protein each day. It's supposed to take me 10 minutes to drink every ounce but I can drink a couple ounces in that time.

I left the hospital the day after surgery on the stage 3 phase of my plan. I've heard my doctor is more generous as other doctors require clear broths and liquids for the first 2-3 weeks. Please ask you doctor what plan he follows!!!

There's a good variety of protein Water on the market that will help you meet your protein goals. I found mine on Amazon or at the grocery. They are too sweet so I water them down about 50/50. I get about two bottles for each one which also helps with your liquid requirements. I struggle with meeting my requirements. It feels like an all day constant chore and I sometimes forget to sip for a couple hours and that can throw me way off track.

It sounds like you'll be on what my doctor calls phase 2. Below is a copy of what my phase 2 Clear Liquids looked like.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
