Hi all, I am 6 months post op. Im down more than 60lbs. I had an amazing surgeon, no pain after the surgery. I take all my Vitamins and eat as healthy as possible. About 1 month ago I got severe pain in my chest. Behind my chestbone. It felt like explosions going off inside my body. I seriously thought i was having a heart attack. My husband called the ambulance and by the time we reached the hospital, the pain was gone. All my blood came back normal, ekg was normal too. They sent me home and told me to follow up with my Dr. The area where i felt the pain remained sore for a few days.

2 weeks later it happened again. Same thing, the pain lasted for 45mins, went away and area remained sore.

After the second time, it happened 2 more times 1 week apart. Im starting to get depressed because i have to my surgeon, gastro, pcp and nobody is giving me any answers. Im tired of being scared to leave my hoise or be alone with my 1yr old because i dont know when or why I am getting this pain. It is NOT the type of pain you can breathe through, this is the type of pain that gets me on the floor, sweating, crying and paralyzed in agony. Im tired of going to the ER and having all the drs and rns look at me like i might be making this up to get pain meds.

Has anyone gone through this?? I need someone to help me.

I had my gallbladder removed prior to the surgery so it can not be related. I dint take any meds.

1 theory I have is that it might be esophogeal spasms. But my surgeon and gastro have shot this down. They all say the same thing, i have to go through tests while im having the pain but that seems impossible to me. Im so scared and depressed. If you or anyone you know has had a similar experience please please please share any info you have

Thanks

Since you had your gallbladder out I should mention Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. A lot of things can trigger it, but it causes excruciating chest pain and only happens in people who had their gallbladder removed. I'm not sure if it's what you're describing, but it look me a long time to figure out what was going on and I have found that few doctors are aware of it. Try googling the symptoms and see if it is what you are experiencing. Either way I hope you feel better and I'm sorry you are going through this!

Ditto above, that is an unpleasant symptom to say the least!! A few years ago, I was SURE I was having a heart attack, but in the ER and subsequent cardio appt, was diagnosed wit -- as you predicted for yourself -- esophageal spasms.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
