I'm new to this site. Have been doing a lot of research into WLS. I definitely feel that the lapband is the answer for me. I'm currnetly about 115-130 lbs. overweight, my bmi is 44.5. Have been overweight since I was about 15 (I'm 33 now) I'm an emotional overeater and am encouraged by the reports I've read from people who've been banded that this does work well. I am currently doing my ins homework and getting my ducks in a row. I'm having surgery on 9-02-03 - a hysterectomy, NOT the band. So, I have to recover from that first! I'll be around for a while- waiting to get everything together. It's great that ya'll have this site, I know it will be a blessing and a great resource as I start this journey.

I was banded on April 1 in Mexico by Dr. Rodriguez. He is a wonderful surgeon and all has gone well since surgery. I have lost a total of 55lbs and I feel wonderful. I was 336lbs before and my BMI was 53. I am now 281lbs and my BMI is 47! The band does not lose the weight for you but is sure does help. Good luck in your weight loss journey!

Sandy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
