What are the foods and beverages you depend on to make sure you're staying on plan, getting your fluids, getting your Proteins, keeping your calories down, etc>?

Two things I depend on:

Protein20 waters: these are flavored, 60-70 calorie waters/drinks that each contain 15 grams of Protein, Adding one to two of these a day has made it much easier for me to get my recommended daily protein in. Basically they take a lot like Propel waters, though you can pick up on the presence of something extra. Not all of the flavors are awesome, but I do really like the coconut Water one. I'm okay with the mixed berry and lemonade, too. The grape didn't agree with me and the wild cherry tastes good but has 4 carbs, which is more than I want to use on a beverage.

Starkist tuna Creations - these are those little pouches of tuna salad with seasoning. They're 70-100 calories, less than 1 gram of carbs, and have 15-18 grams of protein each. They're a good way to get some protein into your day without using anything beyond the minimum for carbs and calories. It saves me some wiggle room to eat something a bit more substantial for another meal that day.

I love the Starkist tuna lunch to go. Just the right size for me and so convenient.

Veggies and Premier Protein are my go-tos. Whenever I make salmon, I have to freeze most of it (I make a lot!). It will last me at least 8-10 meals spread out over at least 3 weeks. I don't eat any other meats that often, but I am always running out of spinach, onions, tomatoes, asparagus, etc. I don't get a lot at a time, because I want the freshest I can get without having to throw any away. Premier Protein has to be my go-to whenever I hit up a costco.

There is also a company called Core Power that makes shakes. The regular ones they have in groceries have a bunch of carbs/sugar, so they're not ideal. But they have another line called Core Power Elite and sometimes I see those at convenience stores. Those have 42 grams of Protein and lower carbs. They're not bad and it's a great way to get a headstart on my protein for the day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
