I have a 4mL band and have always had the problem of throwing up the mucous food about 3-4 times (if not more) a week. My doctor tells me that my pattern does not fit any other pattern that they have heard of. I can eat a bag of Cookies like no other, but if I would try to eat half a banana, then I am doomed. It's weird that the crap food can go down, but the healthy stuff can't. I am however trying to find more healthy foods that go down easily. I have my band filled with 2.2mL and I didn't know exactly how much my pouch holds. Does anyone really know? Am I really supposed to stop eating after 3 bites of something?:help: Thanks!!!

That sounds terrible. I get taht way when I eat to fast - don't chew enough, or eat something to dry.

I did read in a lapband book - to determine the size of your new stomach - you take cottage cheese, fill up a 1 cup measuring cup.

Eat semi quickly stopping when you get full -- and you can determine by the amount missing the size of your new pouch.

Hope that helps.

When I eat - I place my tuna salad or cottage cheese in 1/2 cup glad storage container and find at 1/4 cup I am full - place the cap in it and eat next time.

If I measure 1/4 cup I feel like that won't be enough - weird I know.

Best wishes.

Rachel- I am actually the same way, except 3-4 times a DAY.

If I try to eat good normal food (chicken, fruit, veggies, etc.) I slime and spit up spit gunk and food. But miraculously ritz chips go down with NO problem.

I am over filled (and getting a little unfill on Monday) It sounds like you are too! And this is not that unusual.

Rachel & lauraj23,

I am so glad that you posted! I am the same way, actually more like you lauraj23. I have my moments though, seems like I have problems daily and then miraculously one day I feel like I can eat anything and everything......and keep it down. Those days scare the hell out of me, because I feel like oh my gosh, I need more of a fill! Then the next day it catches up with me and I feel like I'd better not get anymore fill or I could ruin the band! I have an appointment on Thursday and will see what the Dr says.

I do have days when everything comes up and I hate it. It makes me regret the procedure so much. Not only can I not eat without the fear of throwing it up, but now I have waitresses and the people I eat with comment as to how slow I eat. I just hope that it gets better because I do not see myself living like this for the rest of my life.

I was overfilled 2 months ago and it dilated my esophagus. I will wait and see if it gets better and if not I will have to get this last fill removed. Good luck to you and thanks for taking the time to reply!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
