Stevia....yay or nay?

Recommended Posts

I just made up my mind to buy the best-tasting, good-value per serve Protein Shakes.
I am resolute enough to put taste aside if it comes down to it ... pretty much like taking medicine, i.e. it might not taste great but the greater goal is to get better and lose the weight.
It'll be a month or three. I'm mentally prepared.

I have plenty I enjoy. They all have artificial sweeteners, which I don't mind. But if anyone had a good one without I was open to hearing about it!

I tried these. Pretty good!

My Vitamins do contain artificial sweetener and Protein Powder. I add them to coffee each morning. I tried Vitamin pills but they didn't agree with me. At. All.

So, yeah. We all have to be flexible to find what works for us.

I am over 2 years out. I have always used Stevia. I used it as my sweetener of choice for my coffee and Peanut Butter (I make my own if I have it) before I had surgery. It worked well for me as a diabetic. The only brand I use is Stevita. All the others have gross after taste. Stevita just has a sweet honey taste.

I try to limit my processed foods like Protein Bars and other Protein products but when I do have them and they have sweeteners I don't care what they have. My day to day life does not consist of consuming processed foods. Wait, take that back I have Halo Top all the time, and it is sweetened with Erythritol another artificial sweetener I tolerate well. Although when I have purchased it for cooking etc, it has been lack luster.

This is a life long thing for me, I can't see really never having anything sweet. Part of what makes maintenance easy and realistic is finding things that replace things, and is sustainable.

If people feel constantly deprived, it feels like a diet, and they fail. A lifestyle is easy to stick to.

I love Rx bars!! But too much sugar for me on a regular basis. It's the good sugar not added but still not good for me personally on a regular basis.

I am gonna try those vitamins though! Thanks for sharing!

I'm right there with you!

I was just thinking if someone had a Protein Shake without the fake stuff I'd like to try it!

I should add that I cool the coffee with milk, then add the Vitamins since the Protein powder clumps with too much heat. The heavier particles settle to the bottom of the cup by time I get down there, so that last sip is the pits. No pain, no gain! Lol! Adding them to a smoothie is probably better...

In fact, I'll send you a sample if you like so you're not buying a whole tub if you don't like it. Just pm me your addy.

This! I completely agree @FluffyChix. Certain things are triggers for certain people, and you have to choose what works best for you.

I like Sweet-n-low for my coffee because it has the best flavor (to me) next to sugar. I drink one cup of coffee (decaf) per day on most days, but not all. I do it for the flavor, because I like it, so trying to substitute a sweeter that doesn't give me that flavor I want will just make me crave it until I get it. So I have the sweet-n-low because it's better than the calories from sugar, and then I'm done and don't think about it again until the next morning.

Monk Fruit is not an artificial sweetner! Its real natural low calorie sweetner made from the Monk Fruit! It sweeter than Stevia & does not mess with blood sugar's at all!

Oh you're awesome! I do shakes so I can put them in there!

I use all of the sweeteners (depending on what is around) and I log them at 0.5 grams of carbs per little packet. I just tally it in with my other carbs, and keep them below 25 per day.

I'm a year out, have lost 217 pounds, and am at goal. It hasn't impacted weight loss at all. In fact, I'm concerned about how to make the weight loss stop!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
