In the end, my husband's advice was good. I get both sides of this, but not everyone needs to know and I think I'm better off for being able to focus on myself with out having unsolicited advice from anyone. If someone asks me, I'll be transparent because life is easier that way. And maybe it might help someone make a good decision for themselves. Who knows!

Hope all went well with your surgery, moondoggie :)

I just realized how old this post originally was. Did you have your surgery?

One of my cardinal, and top 10 tips:

9. I personally wouldn't share with people, unless you know they will be 100% supportive. It is nerve wracking already and you need nothing but positivity. Plus its a lot of pressure from people who know you've had WLS, versus people who think you are on the weight loss track. People think that the weight is going to melt off after surgery, and sometimes it doesn't. You don't want the extra judgment.

Yeah :) Sorry for replying to old thread - I saw there were recent posts, so I did. I had surgery 12/22/17.

I think it should be up to the patient to decide with whom this info is shared.

Hear, hear to that thought.

It's a "horses for courses" situation when it comes to personal info versus family, friends and work colleagues.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
