I walk about 40 minutes per day for four days in a row, then take one day off.

Truly, the hardest part is getting out the door. Whenever I'm feeling lazy, I remind myself that I paid darn good money to lose weight. Not only that, but I let someone cut into me and remove part of my body. No WAY am I going to let some temporary laziness or discomfort stop me from losing more.

I listen to podcasts to pass the time. I set the timer on my iPod for 20 minutes and head back home when it goes off.

Playing PokemonGo and walking to hatch your eggs is great motivation. I walked 25 miles the first weekend I played.

I have lots of motivations:

  • Maintenance Mode: I'm ready to get to the point I'm in maintenance mode. I am extra motivated to get the last 20-30 lbs off.
  • Paying it forward: The more I move the easier it is to move so I know when I walk out the door today I'm making it easier to get out the door tomorrow.
  • Escapism: I set up music and podcasts that make me happy and that is a real motivator. I'm a very busy person, I work from 8-8 in an executive type position. I have the stress of everyone's jobs on my shoulders, running the company from a business side (vs. the software/medical side), I am constantly stressed, like really really stressed. Having my 3 walks during the day, my yoga at 5 and then hitting the treadmill at home, all those things really help me release my stress from work. The first 3 minutes or so is just working out the stress, then I start getting into my music or the podcast, I laugh and am really getting in my steps with the sun shining and lots of oxygen hitting my brain and suddenly a lot of the stress rolls off my shoulders.
  • Feeling Great: Finally, I feel GREAT when I've been exercising consistently. I have a bounce in my step, I'm full of energy and I feel like I've really got this whole thing handled, you know? It just makes me feel great physically and emotionally.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
