Hello & beginning my revision journey

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I thought I'd introduce myself.

My lapand was placed in 2006 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

I had my lapband removed in June of 2016 at Kaiser in South Sacramento, California.

After then gaining about 40 lbs along with some severe back issues, I have reached back out to Kaiser's Bariatric department about revision surgery. In particular RNY.

My timeline so far is interesting.

I emailed my doctor on 9/20/2017 about referring me to the Bariatric dept for revision surgery. She emailed back and said I didn't need a referral.

On 9/21 I called Bariatrics. They pull up my file and leave a message for the nurse to call me to decide if I need to start at step 1 or somewhere else along the process.

On 9/22 I get a call from the nurse and she reviews a few points and says she will be calling over to my surgeon to see where he wants me to start in this process.

On 9/22 in the late afternoon I get a call to inform me I have a phone appt. with my surgeon on 10/5!!

So... Who knows how long this process will take for me, however I am not wasting any time. I'm already making changes to my diet and routine while absorbing as much information as possible.

I lost my gallbladder after loosing 100 pounds with exercise and diet alone. It was a rough experience and I'll be asking my doctor how the modification to my small intestine will be effected from the bile the drips into it because of organ removal.

Thanks so much for reading this far I am looking forward to learning from everyone elses experience.

Welcome and let us know if we can be of any help.

Since the surgery is expensive, normally the time until the surgery is approved is at the discretion of your health insurance policy. For me it took 9 months from first consult until I was approved for bariatric surgery. But you are a revision, so it may be different. So you may want to dig out a copy of your health insurance policy and see what they require.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
