How do you guys do it with out cheating!?

My four weeks leading in to October 12th is like this. This is the dietitian's guideline.

diet_pre-op_Sept2Oct.thumb.jpeg.f0760eda5bd6b8c7882911cb6ce53d99.jpeg

So today (Monday 25th Sept) is Day 12 of my program.

My saviours have been:

** "any low starch green vegetables". This is code for a stir fry of zucchini, wilted baby spinach, green capsicum (bell pepper), celery, bok choy, choy sum, etc. ... I rapidly heat these then add a dash of lemon/lime juice and a squirt of white vinegar.

** diet or diabetic jellies (jellos)

These two allowable extras are helpful for me.

I've also had a few peppermint and spearmint teas (although I am very much NOT a tea drinker). I've even done bonox and vegemite in boiling Water as a drink.

I still have the Soups up my sleeve. I might go there this week ... just to be different.

- - -

HAVE I CHEATED?

Yes.

1. At the pub for trivia, I had diet ginger beer soft-drink (soda) both Sundays.

2. I had a slice of bread one evening.

3. I have been having a third serve of fruit most (but not all) days.

4. Twice, I added some sliced mushrooms to my stir fries.

It's kicking my ass too. I still have to cook dinner for my son and I get tremendously depressed and cry afterwards. I just keep telling myself that to get thru it is to go thru it. I went to Whole Foods today and filled a small bowl with juice from collard greens cooked with ham (my southern bred family call greens juice pot liquor), a bowl of baked chicken drippings, and broth from their chicken noodle Soup. It helps to change up but this 7 week liquid this is still a BEERYAUCH!

Your diet is way better than mine was.

3 cups of skim milk mixed with 3 scoops of Protein Powder. For the day. For 4 weeks.

Yeah. It sucked.

6 months postop and I've lost 90lbs. Couldn't be happier. Preop misery is a distant memory...

If you are constantly getting some type of Protein in, and Fiber as well, you should not experience hunger. I made sure that every 2 hours or so, I was eating or drinking something. I never got hungry. Before cooking meals, I had a Protein Shake. I then would not be hungry when dinner or breakfast (on weekends) was ready.

I did a 2 week liquid diet even though I only had to do 1 week. I lost 25 pounds during this time, because I was determined to make it work. My advice would be to get your mind right. This is for you, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You've just got to look for it. We've tried and failed at every diet we've ever tried our entire lives. This tool is worth the trouble and hardships, because it tips the balance in our favor.

It may sound crazy, but self-talk works wonders. Everyday, wake up and look into the mirror. Tell yourself that you are beautiful...That you will work hard to achieve your goals that day.....That you are worth happiness.....That you are going to SUCCEED!

It will happen for you. Good luck on your journey!!

@DropWt4Life While the idea of "getting your mind right" is ideal, it may not realistic. Desires to conquer eating unhealthy and overrating is sometimes a matter of culture, ritual, addiction, emotion, and/or a persons psychology. To simply put those real life fact on the shelf is not as simple as it seems. On the other, as a doctor of psychology, I agree with your suggestion to look at and talk to youself, reciting positive statements. I'll take it a step further be suggestion that we say, write down, email, and even text those types of positive self statements to read or say to ourselves daily, hourly, or as needed to become conditioned at believing it. Change is a process go thru them, feel them and own every minute of them, makes getting thru a matter of success.

@theresa_86 I’m 2 weeks and a day today. I change it up with different types for creamy Soups. Tomato bisque, butternut squash Soup, and creamy tomato is the best. I also buy different seafood chowders and I take the chunky stuff out. I’ve had collard greens/ham pot liquor, baked chicken drippings as a Sunday dinner treat. Whole Foods has good soups with tasty broths. It takes forever to take the broth vs the other soup content but it’s worth it. Because I miss the taste of seasonings, sometimes I’ll lick boullion cubes PLUS I love my pop cycles and bombpops. There’s a fat free butterscotch pudding out thatscquite tasty. My mom makes a chicken and veggie stew and once she’s served it to the family, she saves the juice from that and it makes the BEST meal. It help to switch it up a but. I gotta do the liquid meal for another 5 weeks. I had to get creative.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
