Bypass with Barrett's Esophagus

Recommended Posts

I was planning to have SADI Loop DS but was told today couldn't have that because of Barrett's. I have read up on gastric bypass tonight because I had not educated myself. Has everyone had good results. Had band removed a year ago, because it eroded and caused a lot of damage .

I was planning a Gastric Sleeve procedure but was unable to due to Barret's. I had my RNY bypass on July 10 and everything has worked out great. I am down 50# and have decreased my risk of esophageal cancer, amongst other things! I was initially upset about having to change my plans bit once I got used to the idea and educated myself, I went for it. I am so glad that I did! Good luck!

Thank you for posting this. I was planning on a sleeve and after my upper GI yesterday my doctor recommended I change to a bypass. I had my sleeve procedure scheduled already so trying to navigate the changes!

I also changed my plans after consulting with my surgeon and reading the research. I had bypass surgery 9 days ago, am recovering well, and down 10 lbs since surgery. so far, so good!

I was initially interested in the sleeve but due to my GERD and family history of esophageal cancer my surgeon strongly recommended gastric bypass. I had GB surgery in April, took omeprazole up until 4 months post-op, and am now off meds and feeling great. I am so happy that I've reduced my cancer risk and my (pre-op) esophagitis has resolved.

That is very good news, I am happy for you. You have lost a lot of weight already.

I hope you get approved. My doctor told me it was the best and possibly only surgery (other than lap band) for people with Barrett's. My surgery is rapidly approaching on the 10th. Very scared but know it will be good in the end. I have two co workers who had the bypass and both have done well and kept their weight off as well. Good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
