January Sleevers Need Your Advice && Experience!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, my surgery is not until January!!!!

But I am curious to know how my fellow January sleevers are doing.

What are your experiences?

What kind of surprises are in store?

What things did or did not happen as you expected?

How much weight have you lost thus far?

Note: I'm only 5'0 so I would also love to hear how weight loss is for us shorties!!!

Hey! I had my sleeve surgery Jan 14, 2016. It's the best decision I could've made for myself, I only wish I'd done it sooner! I'm only 5'3" and my highest weight was 262. I now fluctuate between 160 and 163. I'm working on losing 10-15 more but I feel great!! I think for me I lost alot slower than some not sure why. But, I didn't really have any of the long stalls that some have either so I think it all equaled out in the long run. You're main focus will be Protein and fluids! Get used to kids sized meals, they're cheaper too lol! I remember it took me a few months to regain my energy after surgery. But once I got my protein up I was good to go. I have low Iron and sometimes have low energy from that. But overall I would do it all over again. It's so worth it!
I'm so excited for you! You'll do great!

Thank you so much!!!! It's inspiring to hear from someone who has been through this. I'm short and starting at 220 which is a 44 bmi for my height. I'm nervous but excited and you made this a lot more reassuring. My husband and I joke that food will be a lot cheaper as I can pick off his plate then.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
