Newbie in the thinking stages

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody!

I'm finally starting to think about getting banded.

I'm afraid of complications. I'm also afraid that it may not work for me since I am an emotional eater.

Please let me know what you think of these fears. Do/did you have the same ones? Have you conquered them?

What's up?

Thanks,

Ginny

Hi and welcome. You are doing the right thing by researching not only the medical aspects of weight loss surgery but the emotional side as well. Ginny, I was terrified of complications as I'm a single mom of 3, have had other surgeries in the past...and they say the more you have the more likely it is something will go wrong. My twin went through this when she had the RNY...worrying about complications due to having so many other surgeries. Well, we were both off the mark as having babies, gall bladder removed, etc...really don't count. :Banane35:

I'm addicted to food. PERIOD. And when I was upset I'd binge even more. Drive thru McDonalds then BK, then Taco Bell...all within minutes of each other. Gross, huh? But when I was happy... not!

The band has helped me help myself. I can honestly say I no longer have the desire for Pepsi. And that's a BIG feat. And only once since being banded did I binge. But the next AM I woke up to over half the bag of chips remained and only a few sips was out of the Mt. Dew. So was that a binge? hahahah

But so far I've only done that once where that used to be normal for me...binging (entire bag and 2 liter).

Good luck on the research and keep us posted with what you decide to do.

Wow. Thanks so much for your reply. That helps me to feel a lot better!

I suspect that everyone feels really impatient to move forward once they've made the decision, huh? I just fond out the seminar two days from now is full, so I need to wait until the 28th. Can you believe I'm irritated about that? LOL!

Hi Ginny!

I am in the thinking stages too. I fear complications most of all, but also failure. I hate to go through all of this and end up fat again because I am weak!! Do I really believe that or is it just easier to believe that than to fight the battle? I think I'm just a scaredy cat!! Anyway, good luck on your journey. The 28th will be here before you know it!

Hi Kathy,

Did you read Grace's reply? It helped me feel better (for the moment). I found a different hospital with a seminar this Saturday. *snicker*

I did and it helps to know a lot of people share the fear but are still grateful they had it done.

Good for you finding a different hospital!! I have been looking around myself hoping to find a seminar on a weekend, but they are all well over an hour away! When there are perfectly good, reputable hospitals and doctors very near my house that have seminars during the week, I can't justify planning surgery at a location that far from home.

Good luck to you and keep me upated!!

Kathy

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
