Did anyone do anything crazy being wheeled into the OR?

Recommended Posts

I'm asking if anyone else did, because when I was being wheeled in, I sang the first verse and chorus of La Marseillaise.

Were ya a little drugged up?
Not going into surgery but after a different procedure apparently when I woke up I was the welcome wagon of the unit. Yelling good luck and wishing all well. I dont remember it.

I remember chatting w/ the Anesthesiologist, as he was chatting w/ me, he gave me anesthesia. All I can remember, I looked at him and continued to chat and out of nowhere, I was told I looked at everyone and said: "Oh boy, this stuff really works"...Lights out! lol

That's hilarious! I have no memory after being wheeled in and moving over to the table. I half woke up and vomited up the liquid pain medicine they were trying to give me.. then all of a sudden I was up and walking around...everything between wheeling in to surgery to when I was up and walking is a blur.

I actually walked into the ER. The orderly bringing me accidentally brought me into the wrong theatre... saw someone out on the table in the middle of a procedure and was like "huh that doesn't seem right..."

Probably would have terrified the **** out of me but I'd just had a couple ativan so I was juuuuust fiiiiine.

The wrong theatre? Is that another way of saying, hospital?

Operating Rooms are also sometimes called theatres, but mostly that is from operating rooms with observation areas.

Right before they wheeled me out of the preop room, I exclaimed "my coochie itches so bad!". The nurse whiles around and said "oops, I forgot to tell you that a side effect of the medicine is a itchy vagina. It relaxes everything.". Supposedly the entire preop area heard our conversation. Lol

When I had my endoscopy, they gave me propofol and I had the same anesthesiologist for both endoscopy and my gastric sleeve so when she was about to knock me out for my surgery, I said "is this the michael jackson drug? You better wake me up" and then when I woke up in the OR my gown had fallen down a little and the OR room door opened and the anesthesiologist was like wait fix her gown and since I was high from the meds I said "I know I have nice tits but come on guys" lol I made everyone in the OR laugh but pretty awkward saying that to strangers I guess...lol

Well, they gave me a local anaesthetic to put in the IV port, but on anything else? No, they made it pretty clear that they test your urine before the surgery for those things and if your urine isn't clean of drugs, they won't do the surgery.

... Though, they didn't test my urine before the surgery, which I felt made all the warnings beforehand kind of a tease.

Yeah, I don't remember much of the PACU (the place where they put me after surgery). I do know that I was having trouble remaining awake, which held up the process of getting me my own hospital room, but when I was able to stay somewhat awake, I got wheeled into my own room on the surgery floor. I know the bariatric coordinator from the programme swung by to congratulate me.

My last memory pre-op was four breaths and then lights out... which is great. While I'll admit to personal curiosity, I'm quite satisfied I wasn't awake for that.

Yeah, at the hospital I went to, the ER is on another side of the hospital which, given the building layout, makes it tough to get to ER when your goal is to try to get to surgery. I actually tried to get to the front desk of the hospital through the ER and it took more walking than I would have thought.

lol I meant did they give you something. I know some folks get something to calm them down before surgery. Hadn't crossed my mind you took something on your own. So funny! Did you wake up just as musical?

I think they might have given me some Oxycodone prior to surgery.

... Which reminds me. The book they gave me was wrong about PCA. I didn't have PCA. If they came by and had pain meds, I had the option to say "yeah, I want that" or "nah, I can go without".

I remember the anesthesiologist asking me to scoot higher up on the table as I was picturing everything in the room and then lights out.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
