Hey guys

I'm curious to know , how long did it take for you until you got the surgery?

Did u had to follow a traject before the surgery or was you immediately proven fit to be operated

Thanks

Here's my timeline...

  • Initial consultation & first weigh-in: October 23, 2014
  • Paperwork submitted to insurance company: November 2014
  • Approval from insurance company: December 26, 2014
  • First surgery date: February 4, 2015 (couldn't make it due to weather)
  • Second surgery date: March 16, 2015 (canceled; I failed cardiac clearance)
  • Third surgery date: April 20, 2015 (finally happened)

So, if everything had gone as planned, my original surgery date would have been 3.5 months after my initial consultation. However, some unforeseen delays arose.

I was self paying so that's always faster, when I had my initial consult they also did the cardiac testing, diet consult and I did psych eval on the phone so once everything was cleared which took about a week they called the next day and scheduled surgery so from initial consult to surgery was almost 4 weeks

By the time I met my surgeon on June 29, I already had completed my insurance requirement for 6 months of medically supervised weight loss with my PCP. I met with the nutritionist and hospital psychologist a week later. My insurance approved the surgery about a week and a half after that and I'm scheduled for surgery 9/14.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
