8 days after surgery and diarrhea

Recommended Posts

Today is my first day back to work and I am having bad diarrhea and bloating. I'm on liquids until next week, and today I've had one premiere Protein, sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, and less than one cup of blended lentil Soup. All of these foods are on my dr's list and I had no problem with them on my pre-op diet or when I ate them sparingly in the first few days after surgery. Other than feeling uncomfortable from the bloating, I'm not having weird pain or other symptoms.

Could this be a result of the sugar substitutes in my foods? If so, it's weird I didn't have this problem when I was home (however, I was on pain killers, which tend to cause Constipation for me.) I don't know what I can do if the sugar substitutes are a problem because their isn't much left that I can eat on the list I was given!

I am 9 days post-op and was feeling great until last night, and had a couple "normal" BMs. Last night I took a turn and also have diarrhea now and feel pretty dehydrated and don't want to drink much. I haven't had anything thicker than thin yogurt, so people have been saying "liquid in - liquid out", so I'm assuming we're still adjusting. Try some Gass X for bloating! It helps me

Had the somewhat of the same issue and someone on the forum suggested I try musclemilk instead of premier because it's lactose free. Just bought it and waiting on it to chill. U know our stomach is all different now and it likes things we didn't like before and hate somethings we loved. Before this I had no problem at all with the premier drinks. Give the muscle milk a try.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
