Consumption of Fluids

Recommended Posts

Ok. So here is my deal. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on Jan 23rd this year. Since then I have been having issues getting in 64oz of fluids. The last couple days in July and roughly 3-4 at the beginning of August I was drinking a lot. I think I may have gotten in 55-58oz a day. But since the beginning of last week, I started having some really bad nausea and a pain in my chest and stomach. Everytime I ate or drank something I would suffer bad nausea and stomach pain. So for about the last 3 days I have not been drinking much. It hurts really bad.

But anyway I was drinking Water today maybe 10oz and just now I asked my husband for some juice and both my husband and my mom flipped out because I put the water away and I'm wondering have I done something wrong. I saw my weight loss doctor and told her about the little water I could drink and her advice was of course water was better and getting the 64oz would be great, but her goal was getting me to drink whatever I could keep down or that didn't upset my stomach. Has anyone else went through this? I mean I am totally alone. They don't understand how you feel after the surgery and all the issues I have, so most times I have to hold these feelings in and I'm jus tired.

Have you tried herbal tea? Peppermint and chamomile are usually easy to get down.

For some reason my stomach only accepts cold drinks, with plenty of ice. I have had a rough time trying 2 drink warm or room temperature drinks. I'm scared 2 try again

I do not understand why they flipped out, I misunderstood that part, you are unable to drink water, and you feel you can drink juice as to not be completely dehydrated which is life threatening, They would rather you drink nothing? There logic is lost on me, as juice may have sugar etc etc. But I would rather you drank whatever you could get down so you do not end up in hospital on a drip.

Your husband is supposed to support you, you are supposed to feel you can talk to your husband about any issues you are facing , so clearly there is a problem, you should communicate to them that you are not feeling like you can talk honestly and openly. Holding things in can effect us negitvaly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
