One week! Is this really happening?!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am fairly new to this site but I love it, and you, for bringing out so many great topics. I've scoured the internet for information for months, read the Big Book on Gastric Sleeve, and I feel ready for this. But then again, how can I know if I'm really ready. I suppose you can only prepare mentally and physically so much and then turn yourself over to the universe. I started my pre-op diet today, which is 3 Protein Shakes and meat/veggies for dinner. I'm really glad it's only one week. You all that have done 2-3 weeks of pre-op are real troopers. I'm trying my best to practice all the new skills: timing my meals, not drinking for 30 minutes after, getting all my fluids. It's a lot to work on.

Any suggestions on how to make this week easier? I'm trying to get in the right head space over the next few days so I don't freak out next Monday, the night before surgery!

Thanks!

~S

My suggestion is to sip warm, clear broth in between Protein Shakes. Do this after surgery as well when on just liquids. It satisfies the salt cravings, and offsets the horribly over sweet nausea of the damn shakes.

My pre-op was 2 full weeks of only shakes and Clear Liquids. Talk about a LONG two weeks! Good luck!!!

Congratulations on your decision Sandra. I found the first 5 days of 14 preop really hard. After that I was fine. I know this sounds cliché but I only got through it by taking one day at a time. I went to bed early to avoid the temptation of snacking in the evening hours. Sleeved July 28 2017 and doing well.

Stay away from television and food commercials and the mall food court. Take walks when everyone else is eating, make someone else put the leftover food away .

Sandra,

Sounds like you are doing everything correctly. I agree with The New Kel. Try to add in a little broth here and there between the Protein Shakes and dinner. This will ensure that you never feel hungry. Anyway, 1 week is cake. You can do it. Just picture the rest of your life, and the happiness you will feel after making this decision. Do that once per day. Positivity works wonders on your mind-set. Good luck on your journey!

You get to eat food on the liquid diet? Mine is nothing buy liquids & the only calories I will get will be from the Protein Drink which only 150 a drink. If, I could eat meat & veggies, I'd be over the moon! You are the lucky one! Tip= chew your food a long time before swallowing it, this will help with the time needed for meals. ............. Hope that helps.

Yes, and believe me, I am so thankful. I know it would be tough to go straight liquids, but I guess that will be my life after surgery anyway, at least for a few weeks. I'll practice the chewing for the next week!

Eating "food" will not shrink your Liver, which is the whole reason for the liquid diet, my surgeon & dietician tell me. Just liquids pre-surgery makes the operation much easier for them to see in there & do the surgery. I'd be very leery about eating food prior to surgery for a whole week, at least. I hope, you are sure about this. I would be curious to know what they say about it. Hope this helps!

Thank you! Hey--you were sleeved on my birthday!! I hope things are going well for you. Thank you all for the suggestions. I am keeping myself busy, work takes my mind of eating. I'll add the broth in, that should help keep me satiated until the next shake. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
