How much help did you need?

Recommended Posts

I'm having the sleeve surgery and will be home alone; but I had an open hysterectomy and was home alone after that. As long as you can get up and down (e.g., so you can get to the bathroom!) and get what you need to drink, you should be fine. Take it easy and walk as much as you're comfortable walking.

I had a revision from band to SIPS DS and went home the same day. I did have someone around the house for me the first few days but I didn't really need much help. I also had to climb the stairs (about 15 steps) and I didn't have a recliner but I just took it slow. I paced a lot during those first couple of days. It was the only way I could sip Water. Sitting and sipping just did not work for me.

Oh. Then you must have a different nutrit. than Sharon. She's at Lenox Hill.

Yes. My nutritionist is named Debbie and I love her. She was so positive and kind and knowledgeable. I liked her better than any of the nutritionists I've worked with in the past.

I know this feed is a min old but I'm currently on day 5 post op from my DS and I would say that by day 3 I could do the basic things for myself, even if it took me forever. I stayed 1 night in the hospital (my doctor said I could spend a second night if I wanted but I didn't). I take myself to the bathroom and am mostly forcing myself to get up and get my own jello/broth/medication so that I can get more walking in. I live in a split entry and the stairs have not bothered me as long as I take it slow, but once I'm on the top floor I have everything I need and don't have to go up and down the stairs multiple times a day. I did need my husbands help showering and dressing though, mostly because I couldn't dry my legs or bend over completely to get my pants on. The biggest thing I've needed my family's help with is watching my 4 year old. There's no way I have the energy to keep track of him right now

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
