Synthesis after DS

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with taking synthesis after DS. I'm wondering if there were issues with absorption. Did you have to crush the pills? I had a total thyroidectomy a few years ago, so I have to take it daily and I'm wondering how surgery might affect it. Thanks.

I haven't had a blood work yet, but I've been on the same dose of synthroid. I crushed for the first week or two and then started swallowing them. Mine are pretty tiny.

Mine are pretty small too. The doctor said there shouldn't be any issue, but I wanted to hear from the people who have lived it...honestly, my dose is always very weight sensitive, so I'll be going to see my endocrinologist regularly as I lose weight to get my meds checked...so I don't know why I'm worrying...

I take Armour Thyroid, and so far my labs are great and my dose is the same. I didn't have to crush the pills, the doc said the size was fine.

My NUT said the same thing about the size of the pills. Have you found that your thyroid issues affect your weight loss after surgery.?Even fully medicated, I've always tended to be a slow loser...although I definitely do better when I cut the carbs. I wonder how my body will be post surgery.

No, I don't think my thyroid issues have affected me post surgery. I'm at almost 3 months since surgery and I've lost about 50 lbs in those three months. I have also noticed that having given up carbs and sugars, I don't retain as much Water as I used to, and I don't feel horrible and bloated all the time. My skin is clear and has a healthy glow. I feel really good, and I am so happy I made this choice. Just stick to the diet and get your exercise when you are approved after surgery, you can't go wrong. Even if you lose a little slower, you will notice so many other benefits, it's so worth it.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
