Revision from band to sleeve

Recommended Posts

I want to know anyone that was able to have the sleeve surgery at the same time as band was removed. Also anyone that has United Healthcare and how hard and what all did you have to do to get approved. Thanks for any assistance.

I had Lap-Band to sleeve revision on 7/26/17. I had the lap band surgery in 2006 and had to self pay because the insurance I had at the time wouldn't pay for it. I have United Healthcare as well but because I had already had a previous surgery I had to self pay again.

Perfectly Imperfect

I had revision band to SIPS DS in one surgery on 8/8/17 that was covered by my insurance. I have Aetna though not united healthcare. I had to do 3 mo supervised diet and 3 nut appts, a whole bunch of tests my doc required and approval only took a couple of days.

Good luck to you!

I just had my band removed (placed in 2010) and my doctors want to convert to gastric bypass but were currently going through ivf. If we weren't doing that the doctors said it would be about a 3 month waiting period for the revision. Were military retired all procedures are free except off. We have tricare.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
