Incisions are EXTREMELY itchy

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 3 weeks out and my incision sites are 99.9% healed and are pretty much light pink scars but they are VIOLENTLY itchy. It sounds pretty dramatic and a little trivial to complain about but I seriously can't find relief. Any remedies???

Do you have glue on them? If so, you may be able to remove it.

If not, then I'm not sure what would help...

I always was told that the itching means they're healing. Have you tried lotion or Vitamin E oil?

I've been using Vitamin E lotion multiple times a day. It sounds odd but I also kind of slap the parts that itch. I will have to give the ice a try

My husband has offered to duct tape pot holders on my hands so I don't scratch my skin raw. (Eye roll)

I am suffering the all mighty itch too. Mine is from the bandages and steri strips. Stupid sensitive skin. Any kind of adhesive makes my skin freak out. I've been using coconut oil, Vitamin e oil and tea tree oil. Still crazy itchy but it works better than hydrocortisone. Plus since I can't seem to get enough liquid in at 10 days out my skin is a bit dry. Which causes more itching!

I had the same thing happen. I had an allergic reaction to the glue. I tried everything for the itch. The only thing that helped was a prescription hydrocortisone cream with a steroid in it.
Good luck

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
