Pain when taking in liquids

Recommended Posts

Just about every time I take a drink of anything(water, G2, broth, creamed Soup, jello), I've tried small sips and slightly bigger ones and it still happens and I try not to swallow air which I don't think I do anyways, I get a horrible pain when it hits the stomach, it feels like it gets stuck and then it goes down, the pain sometimes is so bad it radiates to my back. I did have a hiatal hernia repair during the vsg surgery and my follow up is tomorrow with my surgeon so I will talk about it with him then but I was wondering if anyone one else had this problem 9 days post op? Oh and I do take 100mg of tramadol and it doesn't do anything to the pain.

I have the same pain. It's frustrating but I am sure it's normal and just takes time. At least I hope so. I'm 6 days out.

I had surgery on the 10th. I have the same issue but have found warmer fluids feel better.

I had this type of issue, about ten or so seconds after I drank liquids there was a pain on my right side. I noticed it the first night post op. When I took my barium swallow the next day, I watched the screen and saw that my pain was happening when liquids went from stomach to small intestine. My intestine was full of gas and was swollen and was causing the pain. I asked specifically about my pain and he said anywhere up to two weeks I could retain gas. Just my story, thought I'd share :) hope yours gets better :)

I had trouble drinking too, felt full and gassy but no pain, but felt I couldn't get more than 2 sips of anything, then I had to wait. Now I am 4 weeks out and it is better. Still need to drink slowly but not that slowly any more.

walking after drinking (or eating soft foods) really helps.

So I saw my surgeon today, he said it was normal and it will take maybe a week to get better, everyone is different. I do have to say today was a lot better in regards to getting fluids down and not having pain!

Just be very careful when advancing to the next level. I had a lot of cramps or spasms like pain when I eat anything like mash potatoes, chicken salad or egg yolk

I think I was drinking too fast. If I drink, then wait 30 seconds, then drink again, it's mostly pain free. It stinks to sit here and watch the clock, but if I glance up and drink when the big hand hits 0, then again at :30,i seem to be handling it better.

I guess I was just being too confident in my abilities.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
