Post Bypass Struggles

Recommended Posts

Good Morning Group,

My name is DeeDee and I am on my 2 1/2 - 3 week post-op Gastric Bypass journey. During my journey so far I have endure many different feelings and I wanted to know if anyone out there has been through the same or similar? Some days I feel I have made the right decision for my health and life, on other days I feel like I made a mistake. I think I feel like this because of the struggles each day to abide by the restrictions that it takes to maintain my health goals. I just have a fear that I may not being doing enough since being home. I see my surgeon and nutritionist in two days for my follow-up. Some days I am happy and others I cry when it seems difficult to even think about other responsibilities and tasks. Is this normal?

I think after surgery, I was too busy trying to follow the detailed guidelines I was given than to rethink my decision to have surgery. There were a lot of challenges that had to be overcome along the way. It wasn't until around the 6th month that all the problems seemed to dissolve away and I reached a "Happy State". So my recommendations is to give it some time.

Also you may be experiencing one of the side effects from weight loss. As you lose weight, the chemicals and hormones that were stored in your fat cells are being released into your body. These will pass through your kidneys and are expelled in your urine. But they can generate a flush of hormones during the weight loss phase. They should simmer down once you transition into maintenance. It is important to meet your daily Fluid requirements, because it take fluids to flush these hormones from your system.

I'm feeling the same way. My Dr said that these feelings are common after bariatric surgery. Along with James has said, I no longer have food for comfort. I have scheduled a psych appt as suggested by my Dr.

Feel better soon!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
