Let's get to know the TENS...come on you know you wanna!

Ok I have another idea...

I am so proud to be a part of the TENS, and I am sure that I am not alone in my feelings. This is an awesome group of people. We discuss our diets, our accomplishments, our fears, our opps, our bands, but what do we really know about each other? We know Holly is very organized and we love her very much, and she has a cat.

My idea is that we share a little about ourselves. You know where we hail from. What our interests are. If we have family. You never know some of us could be neighbors and friends. Now don't feel like you have to do this. Share as much as you like. I would like to keep "band" talk out of this thread if at all possible, this is just a place for us to hang out. I don't if it will work...but I am willing to give it a shot.

My name you know, my age is 33. I live in British Columbia, Canada. I am Married to my high school sweet heart and have a beautiful daughter age 10. I am a part-time accounting student. In the picture below is my dog Simon; I am sorry about his tongue it is just to long for him to keep in his mouth.

I am devoted to my family and friends. However I just recently moved to Chilliwack, BC, which is far away from where I lived previously. My exercise of choice are walking and swimming. I also love my little white 2000 Bettle...beep, beep! I have a lot of energy and I am usually go-go-go all day long. I am addicted to Starbucks! So much so that when we buy a home I make sure that Starbucks is within walking distance, or it is a no go. I love mochas! I also love Facebook.com, it keeps me in touch with old friends and new. I love to travel with my family; in a year or so we may go to Greece. (Check me out in my new bathing suit then! Boom -Chuck- Woow- Woow)

I'll end by saying that I have a lot of support. My husband of 12 years loves me deeply and supports me. (And he thinks I'm sexy.) I really like myself even the way that I am now too. I am a positive roll model for my daughter; who I love very much. And I am always here for any one who needs me.

Ashley aka Lizziee

I live here in downtown Harrisburg Pa in the historic section about 2 blocks from the river which makes it nice for my walks with the beasts.

I work for a wireless telephone company last 9 years doing National Sales.

I love to read, listen to music, travel and cook. My 40th B-day present to myself is going cooking school in Italy so I have 3 years to save.

My friends and family are my life. My Ya aka DB is my best friend in the whole wide world and why he puts up with me I have no clue but I figure that's up to him to figure out!

I have 2 dogs Old English Sheepdogs and 2 Himalyian cats which equals a lot of white hair and lint brushes every place. However I'm happy to report none of my animials have the Gene Simmons tongue issue as Amy's dog Simon.

This is me from our trip to the Bahamas with one of my best friends from HS. NO I am not the one with my tongue hanging out but I thought it went with the theme.

Hi! I'm Evelyn and I live in lovely Pleasant Hill, Iowa, with my high school sweetheart -- married 36 years in November. How time flies! We have two beautiful kids, a son 30 and a daughter 28. Our son is a free spirit and lives for today and not married. Our daughter is a doctor and has 2 years of residency to do, which she is doing at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Not too far away, which is great! She has been married for 3 years now but, of course, no grandkids yet -- darn it! :nervous I'm thinking it will be a couple of years, but that's okay because by then he or she will have a thinner and healthier grandma! I am a legal secretary and work downtown Des Moines. I love to read (thus the log-in name!) and hang out with my hubby.

I get banded Monday, the 15th, and can't wait! :clap2: 2 more days! This is my "before" picture. Can't wait for the "after"!

Yes, I live in Oregon but I was born and raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Calif. I moved to Oregon about 5 years ago. I'm a registered nurse and have been single for 16 years. I have 2 daughters and 2 grandchildren, plus 2 cats and a dog. I acted in musical theater for about 6 years and have been in many, many performances. My "dream" is to get out of nursing and make my living as a Christian author. I love to read and am a book-aholic. I really don't like this picture of myself but it's "real" and it's were I started from. As you can see it's only a face shot, because I really avoid the cameras, but I started out at a size 22 and only 5 foot tall. I used to love watersports, and hope to indulge that love again this summer when I'm feeling healthier and fit. Maybe when I've broken free from the chains that have held me back for so many, many years I will open my heart up again to a nice man. I hope so anyway. And he'd better be cute too, 'cuz I'm gonna be sizzlin'! :flame:

I think at this point I'm the 'token' Aussie!

37 and live with my partner in Melbourne. I'm a Registered Nurse and enjoy the challenges of my job, although I'm looking forward to less challenge on my legs as I lose weight!

I love sport and the outdoors and am sad that those things have gradually dropped out of my life as my weight increased. Cycling, tennis, bushwalking and skiing are all favs as is chasing my Sisters kids around. We don't have any of our own (yet) but having more energy to play chasey with the girls is definitely something to look forward to. My darling man is my biggest support, we love to travel together and have many places on our list still to see. Our next trip will probably be to North America skiing and visiting with friends. In my spare time I like to read, needlework, cook and we are food & wine enthusiasts.

Hi Everyone!!

My name is Twyla. I am 26 years old. I have been married for the last 5 1/2 years to my great husband who is in the Navy, but we have been a couple since I was 17 years old and he was 20. We were both born and raised in Michigan. We now live here in Virginia because of the Navy. I recently graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. I currently work as a registered nurse in labor and delivery at a nearby hospital. We bought our first home a year and a half ago, and remodeling it had been quite the adventure. It is a 2 bedroom 2 full bath end unit townhome. We have replaced nearly everything, and I currently have my kitchen cabinets stacked up in my dining room area waiting to be installed. I put off the kitchen demo becasue we will have to be without a sink for 2 weeks while our countertop is being made, and I did not want to be without a sinke downstairs during my post op recovery. I have Poly cystic Ovarian Syndrome and have slowly gained weight since my late teens/early twenties. My endocrinologist says by loosing the excess weight I will increase my fertility, and we really want to have a family. I can loose weight, but just cant keep it off. I had surgery on October 4th, and am feeling pretty good now. I go for my first post op appointment on the 17th and boy am I anxious to get off of the liquid phase!! It is nice to meet everyone and this thread was a great idea!! I am going to try and attach a picture of me and my hubby.... Sorry the image is big, I cant figure out how to shrink it...This was taken at a nursing ball on a boat ride when I was still in school about a year ago. The only thing that has changed is that my hair is longer....

My name is Amy. I am 33 years old and married to my high school sweetheart for 12 years. We have an 8 year old son and are in the process of adopting an 11 month old little boy. He found us when he was 2 months old. He was cocaine exposed and very difficult in the beginning, but now he is on track for his age and absolutely prescious. I am a little nervous about not being able to lift him. I am a nurse by profession, but currently am a stay at home mom. I hope to remain at home for a very long time. My husband is a welder at a power plant. Our 8 year old is amazing. We enjoy hunting, riding 4 wheelers, church, friends, and FAMILY FAMILY FAMILY. BTW, I live in East Texas. My husband is very support of my lapband decision. He is a great guy, and such a cutie ( I've got to figure out how to do pictures. I am scheduled to be banded on October 24. This is my 4th day on the liquid diet and I don't like it too much. I look forward to getting to know everyone.</p>

Here is the picture of me! It was taken on a cruise that my DH and I took to Alaska with my dad, sibs and spouses. I just loved those sticky buns! I had to have my son help me with downloading the picture. I pride myself on being some what computer savy, but I do have to ask for help from time to time!! :) :embarassed: :D

I am single as usual (hopefully it will be easier to find a man skinny)!! I am set to be banded on Oct. 17. I can't wait to get it over with.. I am dying on this pre-op liquid diet. :whoo:

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
