Sleeve to bypass on August 18th

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve surgery in December 2015, we have a wonderful, active, supportive, and SECRET Facebook group that I still turn to regularly.

I've lost a lot more weight than anyone expected, currently about 113lbs. After having reflux issues, it was discovered that my stomach is twisted, with similar results to a stricture. My surgeon has recommended I have a gastric bypass, which is booked for August 18th. I can't remember much about the recovery from the previous surgery, my surgeon said it will be easier this time because I'm at a normal BMI and much fitter. I'm mostly worried about the recovery, plus doing the liquid diet again will suck!

Just wanted to reach out to my new BP community, I hope to find other August 2017 bypass buddies so we can get through this together!

Hello! I'm scheduled for RNY Gastric Bypass on Aug 18th as well. Originally scheduled on Aug 3 but the surgeon had a family emergency and I had to reschedule. This will be my first bariatric surgery and I'm so excited! I've been on the liquid diet since July 20th because of the rescheduling and it's hard but I think it's good for me, getting me in the right mindset.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
