will any amount of exercise improve this skirt

That's what I call the fat in my lower abdomen. I know I probably can't get rid of the entire thing, but will exercise improve it? What about these flabby looking thighs and knees? Has anyone had experience with this? With regular exercise, has it really improved?

It depends. If your abs are rock hard underneath then there's probably not much more to be achieved. If you cant do push ups and planks and a gazillion sit ups then you could probably still achieve significant improvement.

Flabby knees and thighs? Well, I'm finding that to a degree that depends on your goal weight. Set a reasonable one that you can easily achieve and live with and probably nope, those last areas of flab wont go. But I'm finding that losing down toward the bottom end of my healthy weight range, well every kilo is just coming directly off the fat areas now, and I can see that were I to get light enough, they would disappear. Not sure I can quite achieve that or wether its worth trying to maintain a really light weight for the sake of it, and of course, my knees may look great but my face will look haggard, lol.

That gives me some hope for my future flab (or disappearance of). I don't expect to look perfect but I am hoping that with work, I can improve a lot in that department. Of course I know my health will improve and already has with just a smaller weight loss.

I go to the gym 5 x a week and really have a good workout so I guess only time will tell.

the only thing that has gotten rid of some of my flabby tummy and legs is cardio. LOTS and LOTS of cardio. i average about 45 mins a day for 5-6 days a week. weekends i tend to do more (up to 90ish minutes).

Hi Losing just me. Thanks, I feel very encouraged by your post. Currently, I am using the elliptical and the tread mill along with weight training. I think I weill step it up a notch as right now I am still getting used to the elliptical and can only do 10 minutes at a time.

my first time on the elliptical was less than 2 minutes. i gradually increased by 10-15 seconds each time i got on. i have gone for as long as 60 minutes, but now i try to break my cardio up so i dont get bored.

right now my 'challenge machine' is that blasted Stairmaster. i can usually go about 2 minutes on it. i've gone as many as 3, but i have noooooo idea how i did that ... :eek:

slow and steady start and you'll be rocking in no time!

hi Losing,

Once I get the hang of the elliptical, I am thinking of starting that stair thing. I don't know if it's the same thing you are speaking of. It looks really hard and is about 4 or 5 steps going up and I see people at the top just climbing and climbing. I get pains in my legs just watching.

My son, who is about to go pro as a boxer runs up 17 flights of stairs 3 x a day 3 x a week as part of his training. Wow, I am amazed at how he can do that.

that sounds like thats it. you have to actually CLIMB up the thing to get on and that bottom step goes down a bit. it is not easy for me at all. but who said exersing was supposed to be easy ... :eek:

Oh yes, for sure you need cardio probably MORE than any toning work! YOu have to burn the fat off. And surprisingly, running worked absolute wonders on my stomach. My mid section is so strong and its not from doing 50 thousand crunches. Running really works your abdominal muscles Even my arms and shoulders toned incredibly from just running (the arm motion). I only brought in strength training later on for fine tuning

Hi Jacqui

I can't really actually "run" yet. I am up to 3.3 mph on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I weigh 275 so I am looking forward to speeding up soon. The cardiologist said much of what you said that running is the key to everything. She said that I should be able to go up to 4.0 once I am 250 or 260!

I just have to say, everytime I hear someone does elliptical I am in absolute AWE.

I tried the elliptical, and on the easiest setting.. I got to MAYBE 1 minute before feeling like keeling over.

The next day when I didn't realize I was sore, I got on it, and couldn't push myself to even do 30 seconds.

So I am amazed by you guys who can do the elliptical for any amount of time. I hope one day I can too!

Thenume, I was banded the same day you were, my Dr. has restricted on sit ups, twisting, pilates, heavy weights for now. I go in for my first fill next week, I am hoping he will release me then to start doing some, if not all of those things. Check with your Dr. before you do anything very big.

An elliptical trainer (also cross trainer or simply elliptical) is a stationary exercise machine used to simulate walking or running without causing excessive pressure to the joints, hence decreasing the risk of impact injuries.

Elliptical trainers offer a non-impact cardiovascular workout that can vary from light to high intensity based on the resistance preference. Most elliptical trainers work the user's upper and lower body (although some models do not have moving upper body components). Using an elliptical trainer is designed to elevate the heart rate more than building muscles.

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
