Day 5 No sipping, regular drinks?!???

Recommended Posts

Today I've been drinking not sipping?! Is this normal. The nurses told me to sip until I can't tolerate. Well. I have definitely met my quota today for liquids!! IS THIS NORMAL??! Did I already stretch my stomach out? At first I thought good I can drink and then I panicked. Any thoughts... appreciate all responses! Surgery was 7/18 down 10lbs

As far as stretching your stomach, unlikely. More than likely the inflammation from your surgery is going away, but I would be carful how much I intake at once for now. You still need to finish healing and that can take time. Too much at once while healing could cause other problems. Just keep taking it nice and easy for a while, and contact your doc if you are really concerned, no need to panic yourself when medical answers are just a phone call away. You are new to this so there is no such thing as a dumb question and that is what your medical team is there for.

I'm a little further out than you at 7 weeks but returned to work today and had to grab something from the back and realized I hadn't drank anything yet today. I grabbed a 12 oz glass of Water and guzzled almost the whole cup. Amazed myself bc I'm thinking if I can do this a few times a day there's hope of reaching my Fluid goal. But pouch def not stretched, full off half a chicken breast.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
