I have 2 nutition classes and my psych evaluation that is between me and surgery....

A psych evaluation for some reason really freaks me out. I'm so afraid that they will see what a bad relationship I have with food and how messed up I am in the head as far as diet and my weight Hang-Ups go that I will fail it. Has anybody ever failed their psych evals? I'm not saying that I'm crazy I'm just saying that I hate tests and I do have a problem with my weight which is why I'm here in the first place!

You can't fail a psych exam, they just want to see if they can determine any potential problems or deal breakers, as well as come up with a game plan for dealing with them. Just go in, talk with them and answer their questions, you'll be fine.

I worried that it would be so much more than it was. I Didn't need more antidepressants or therapy. I passed for weght loss surgery. You will too.

The result of my psych evaluation was that I had to participate in six group sessions. The schedule did not match with mine so I had to see another therapist at least six times, which I found one on my insurance plan so it was only a $20 co-pay each visit. We had to cover the same topics as the group sessions and then she wrote a letter stating that I would be a good candidate for surgery. I really like this therapist and I've continued seeing her beyond the letter of recommendation and I hope that this will be at another tool to help me make this a successful surgery in the long run. There are many issues that we will have to face moving forward and six group sessions just doesn't cover it all. If there is a way for you to do it like this, I would recommend you check out your options. Just make sure you have someone who is trained for eating disorders and not general family psychology. Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
