i was menopausal. Not a concern or issue for me. Thank God. The morning sickness would have really been even more awful after the sleeve. It felt like morning sickness for two years all day long. Lol

I have known of ladies though that after losing a lot of weight got pregnant very easily

One lady got pregnant immediately after being on Opti fast and losing over 80 lbs. I do believe that losing weight helps with fertility and especially after being on a Protein Shake fast. I wouldn't think it'd be advisable to get pregnant within the first year after the sleeve. But that should be a question for your doctor to answer.

I would think that if someone had the gastric bi pass surgery that the baby might not get the proper nutrition or probably the mother would suffer with malnutrition most likely.

Again follow your doctors advice

I am glad i did this after i had all my children. I wouldn't have wanted to risk this ...getting pregnant after surgery.

Thanks
I'm aware that I shouldn't get pregnant during the first year as my spealist advised me I was just wondering because I'm curious to see how people went about it and what there outcome was if it made a difference etc

I struggled with infertility in my 30's - I lost weight and started ovulating again and was able to get pregnant. That was long before my vsg surgery , but I wanted to encourage you. Being overweight can cause polycystic ovaries and losing weight can resolve that issue.
In my case I only had to lose 20 pounds to get my ovaries working again! I now have 4 beautiful kids!
Good luck!

The form I signed before getting sleeved yesterday had on it to be aware that fertility can be very high after sleeving. And the nurse said she had 4 patients recently who got pregnant without trying.

Yep... lots of surprise babies. My surgeon recommends switching to a barrier method like IUD until your weight is stable.

I have an IUD but I'm so anxious about getting pregnant I'm trying to convince my husband to get a vasectomy lol. (Not planning to have kids.) So far he's a no go. :51_scream::lol: Hopefully the IUD does the job!

My surgeon also told me I'd become very fertile following my VSG. Thank God for IUDs!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
