When did you start working out after VSG

Recommended Posts

I was walking 2 miles at 4 days post op. Walking is fine just listen to your body and don't over do it. Ask your doctor if you are unsure. I started a couch to 5 k running program at 5 weeks post-op.

i think most people are released for more strenuous exercise by 6-8 weeks.

I'm 17 days out and I walk 1 mile a day. I'm using 2lb hand weights doing arm toning really want to get those bat wings toned as I lose. I do stretching and light cardio. There is an awesome bariatric chair exercise video on YouTube I love it.

With my Dr's blessing I went back to Crossfit at 2w5d after my surgery. I'm almost 8 weeks post now and I'm still not lifting heavy (nothing over 100 lbs), but I'm getting in a good workout anyway.

My doctor gave me the go ahead to work out without restriction at 3 weeks post op because I am doing so well with recovery. That's this Thursday.
I would definitely check with your Doctor though because every surgery/patient is different.

Did you do crossfit before your surgery? I do a really intense HIIT workout and I'm anxious and depressed thinking about not going for 6 weeks. I'm hoping once I have the surgery (July 31) and my incisions heal I'll get the okay because I was doing it before. They're my community much like I hear crossfit is.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
